Life in Lyon

Some of us are used not to move from our wonderful campus. Indeed, what for? We can eat, sleep, party, practice sport, get a haircut, get girls, (work), attend lectures… But this is a shame.
We have the opportunity to live close to one of the biggest cities in France, with a higly rich cultural history, bars with exotic drinks, cheap restaurants, tons of events, and in a word an infinite number of things to discover.
So, what are you waiting for? Here are some propositions that might guide you for your outings.

Petit Paumé

A useful guide for restaurants or outings in Lyon. You can get it for free at the beginning of the academic year. If you’ve missed the giveaways in the campus or in the city, you may claim it by mail for 3.15€. You’ll also find all their work and readers’ reviews on their website.

Les Bouchons Lyonnais

The Bouchons Lyonnais are traditional restaurants. They offer quite cheap meals (around 15€). Though this is not haute cuisine, you will enjoy them in a really convivial atmosphere! However, be careful: some are tourist traps. Again, you may refer to the Petit Paumé or look for the label Authentique Bouchon Lyonnais awarded by the Association de Défense des Bouchons Lyonnais.

Festival of Lights

The « Fête des Lumières » lasts 4 days, from December 5 to December 8. During these 4 nights, a huge variety of artists lights up the city while the inhabitants put candle lights on their windowsill.
The Place des Terreaux and the Basilica of Fourvière concentrate the main events of the festival.
This tradition which started in 1643 to thanks the Virgin Mary for saving Lyon from the plague is now a huge international festival that draws more than 4 millions tourists each year !

Run in Lyon

Lyon is one of the cities that host a “Run In” event. The participants can choose between 3 routes (10 km, Semi-Marathon and Marathon) which are runned in the center of Lyon.
Each “champion”, as they’re called, has the opportunity to run in a exceptional environment. The races usually occur on the first sunday of October. Save the date, either to particate or to support them!

Eurexpo

The Lyon city exhibition or convention center offers over the year a huge variety of events: from competitions to exhibitions, conferences and galas, you’re likely to find something that will interest you.
You can reach it easily by public transports. Discovering over 170 000 m² of exhibition area certainly worths the journey!

Un Doua de Jazz

Organized by an association of students, this Festival allows their colleagues (and of course other visitors) to enjoy jazz concerts at low prices. It takes place nearby the LyonTech campus in late October. This year was already the 22th edition!
